Water poverty is a horrifying reality in the Central African Republic. Not only does the majority of the population lack access to safe drinking sources, but most relief projects have only provided temporary solutions. Without proper maintenance plans in place, as of 2011, only 10% of the available wells in the country continue to provide access to sanitary water.
They had such a low opinion of themselves because so many people and organisations had come and gone that they thought they were worth nothing. When we stayed it offered hope.
